Spurrier Shut Down as Georgia Introduces Freshman QB
Saturday, September 09, 2006

I’m impressed! Anytime you hold Steve Spurrier scoreless, you have a lot to beat your chest about. It doesn’t matter if Spurrier was coaching Furman. He would bring his best game plan for Georgia. Instead, he brought a South Carolina team with some very good offensive players and walked away without a score. The game was definitely not the prettiest, but Georgia’s defense shined.

The bigger story here was the introduction of Matthew Stafford. He didn’t throw up great stats. He threw a few interceptions and missed on a few passes. However, he showed why he is so hyped. He wasn’t afraid to stand in the pocket. He made some very impressive touch passes. He also displayed a laser arm. This kid is just simply polished. Decision making and accuracy are a couple things that come with experience. He has all the physical tools. Don’t expect the learning phase to take too long for Stafford. Georgia fans are just hoping they don’t have to deal with booing Joe Tereshinski anymore this season.

In the end, who could fail in Georgia right now with that great defense and a stable of great running backs. Picking out a good receiver is another challenge, but regardless of who lines up under center for Georgia, they should excel.
